Programme Aims and Objectives

1. To provide an advanced taught programme which covers the major aspects of computational and theoretical fluid dynamics in application to aeronautical engineering, with a high-level of applicability to non-aeronautical disciplines as well.
2. To deliver a programme which has a strong emphasis on the development of knowledge and skills in relation to aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), structural analysis, control and flight mechanics. An integral component of the programme is the combination of aerodynamics and structural analysis.
3. To attract academically talented and motivated home, EU and overseas students.
4. To create graduates with a fundamental understanding of the programme material and the ability to apply their theoretical knowl edge to complex practical problems.
5. To create students with a high-level of graduate employability.
6. To ensure students have the ability to solve complex problems numerically, as opposed to simply using ‘black box’ commercial codes. As a result graduates can write and develop, rather than simply use, commercial packages.
7. To support theoretical and computing knowledge and skills through the use of simple experiments.
8. To ensure that the programme provides not only enhanced engineering training, but also encourages and provides opportunities for conversion to an advanced engineering discipline for graduates from disciplines such as Mathematics and Physics.

UK requirements for international applications

Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Students have to register on the UCAS website before applying to the university. They will find all the necessary information about the application process on this website. Some graduate courses also require registration on this website, but in most cases students have to apply directly to the university. Some universities also accept undergraduate application through Common App (the information about it could be found on universities' websites).

Both undergraduate and graduate students may receive three types of responses from the university. The first one, “unconditional offer” means that you already reached all requirements and may be admitted to the university. The second one, “conditional offer” makes your admission possible if you fulfill some criteria – for example, have good grades on final exams. The third one, “unsuccessful application” means that you, unfortunately, could not be admitted to the university of you choice.

All universities require personal statement, which should include the reasons to study in the UK and the information about personal and professional goals of the student and a transcript, which includes grades received in high school or in the previous university.

Aero MSc Bursary Scheme

This scheme is open to Home students that are able to secure a place on an MSc programme accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society. Home students of both are MSc's are eligible for his bursary, and are encouraged to apply for this scheme without delay. Applicants need not hold an offer from Imperial when they apply for the bursary. The main criterion for the award of a bursary will be the candidate’s motivation and commitment to a career in UK aerospace.

Scholarships

Mechanical Engineering Scholarships and Awards The Royal Aeronautical Society provides scholarships to students showing a keen interest in the field of aerospace, whom require financial help with their tuition fees. They do require that applicants have already studied at least two years in the area: as such they only provide scholarships to final year undergraduate students and to postgraduate students. There are no nationality restrictions, however,membership of the Royal Aeronautical Society is a condition of entry. 

The programme begins in October and ends in September. 

If you have a first degree taught in English within the following countries then you meet the English requirement automatically: Australia, Canada, Guyana, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, West Indies. This applies only to degrees that were awarded by a university in the relevant country.

GCSE or GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent

Grade B in English Language.

IGCSE

English in a First language – Grade B.  We do not accept the IGCSE in English as a Second Language

IGCSE in First Language English is no longer accepted by UK Visa and Immigration as proof of English language proficiency, therefore, if you require a Tier 4 visa please note that we no longer accept this qualification towards meeting your English language condition.

International Baccalaureate

A1 Syllabus (Standard or Higher) – grade 4

A2 Syllabus (Standard) – grade 5

A2 Syllabus (Higher) – grade 4

B Syllabus (Standard) – grade 6

B Syllabus (Higher) – grade 5

IELTS (Academic)

An overall score of 6.5, with 6 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

TOEFL

Please note that following UK Home Office Visa and Immigration concerns about the security of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the decision not to extend its Secure English Language Testing licence, we are not accepting TOEFL tests for those who may require a Tier 4 visa.  You are therefore advised to take one of the other acceptable tests.

If you do not require a Tier 4 visa, we will accept a TOEFL test.  An overall grade of 92, with 20 in each element.

Imperial College considers TOEFL tests to be valid for 2 years. Scores must be valid at the beginning of your studies at Imperial College, should your application be successful.

Pearson Academic (PTE)

An overall score of 62, with no less than 56 in any element.

Imperial College considers PTE scores to be valid for 2 years. Scores must be valid at the beginning of your studies at Imperial College, should your application be successful.

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

Tests taken before 1st January 2015 – an overall pass or a Level C1 certificate.

Tests taken after 1st January 2015 – an overall pass with a pass in each element.

Cambridge Advanced English (CAE)

We are accepting this test for the first time for those applying for 2015/2016 entry.

Tests taken before 1st January 2015 – Grade C.

Tests taken after 1st January 2015 – an overall score of 176, with no less than 169 in each element.

West African Examinations Council (WAEC)

Grades 1-4 in English Language.
